Ready your light….or How to make lanterns, a tutorial.

December 21, 2011

Somedays with the darkness looming in a season which should bring Light… we must push hard against darkness.

We can’t just sit by.

~

We must collect little bits of ourselves….of the Season we are in.

We must inspect where we are and where we are going.

Look for the signs around us…that tell us we are going into brighter days.

So with our signs which stubbornly remind us of greener days we  get….

a little giddy

a little wild.

~

We get a little messy…

But with life filled sprigs of promise we remind ourselves we are going somewhere.

That everyday is a gift…and there are many more gifts to share together.

So with our Lights lit we push hard against the darkness…. and we claim the future filled with Light!

*Tomorrow is the Shortest Day. Do you have any plans to share? We take a Nature Walk in the dark with our lanterns. Last year we had a HUGE full moon… not sure what to expect this year. Either way we use it as a symbolic walk for our kids to understand the simple truth:
Where there is Light, darkness can not be.

It’s also Hanukkah, the rededication of the temple. There are rules for it in Leviticus, and a short mention in Matthew I think of Jesus having come to the temple in Jerusalem in the winter at the time of rededication (Hanukkah) and teaching in Solomon’s colonade. So why not participate as Christians? Rededicate ourselves, temples of the Holy Spirit.

I am tempted by your post to do these! Maybe with neighborhood kids tomorrow. So, thanks!

Such a lovely project, and a lovely post. I think the kids will remember this fondly when they are grown 🙂
