Our First Time

June 13, 2011

A mother’s daughter somewhere half a world away wrote to my daughter.
My daughter sent her daughter a princess bracelet (see here)…and her daughter sent a picture of her in a frame. I can just imagine her joy at getting to use the sparkle glitter and glue. I traced my finger over the frame and the little lumps of glitter imagining how much fun she had had…or was she apprehensive, worried she would mess it up? What I do know , she was probably proud of her little picture !
My daughter was so happy to send her a pink bracelet…but Mer was even happier to look at the little girl in a new outfit. Mer and I cooed over the little girl with her new shoes. We oohed and ahhed over her picture complete with a Guatemala volcano.
“Momma…I love her blue sparkles…can we write and tell her the sparkles are on my fingers!? Can we tell her we like her new white shoes with two pink flowers? “, and then in all her 6 year old seriousness, “and Momma..we haveta tell her I did pray for her a hundred times a day.”
We received four out of the seven Compassion International letters this weekend. Two of the letters we are waiting for are to my older girls…who are anxiously waiting to “meet” their new friends over paper and pencil, stickers and markers.

aw! I love Mer! “can we tell her I have blue sparkles on my fingers” what a sweetie. All those prayers have reached that little girl and the way you know that is the blue sparkles. God is Good!

I love the way Compassion sponsorship affects our own children as well as those we sponsor. I am so excited that we were able to add our tenth CI child to our family this morning, thanks to some of my generous blog readers who pitched in!

Letter writing is so crucial to this ministry, I am happy to see that you are committed to writing! Many children go months or years without hearing from their sponsors! My blog features a lot of letter writing tips and ideas you might like. One thing we love to send are the free photobooks from HotPrints.com . They are just $2.99 with the shipping and perfect for sending our CI kids!
