Honey~Do… Create!!!
Phew what a hot week. I don’t mean that in a sexy way either…hot as in steamin hot! But the clouds look promising today and I am hopeful. Either way lets focus on creativity.
I bought the kids an old school typewriter. Remember finding it in your grandparents home? You just had to type your name. It was so satisfying and all you wanted was to sit there and type forever. Brand new typewriters (can you believe they still make them?) cost more then super cute retro ones…
easy choice.
Each kid perched in front, excited just like we all have been sitting in front of the optimistic click*clack of those keys. I have reems of paper with kids names and ages on it now…each one doing just what all of us have for decades. Except one of my children…one stopped me in my tracks.
Substitute the “are” for “our” and it will make more sense. The last sentence stands out…“God is the peace in our heart”. She has been here three years...she hasn’t always had any peace in her heart. She has chewed her fingernails off in her anxiety. Down to where her cuticles grew over the sliver of nail. She was in charge of caring for her sister. She has been a three year old parenting a one year old. She has been a four year old navigating parenting a toddler.
Three years ago at the end of our first night together , as I tucked her in she asked me , “did you brush her back teeth?”… This from Yen who ended up with ten cavities when we got to the States… Her little sister had none. She had taken care of Mer at the expense of her own self…always caring…always worrying.
She didn’t type her name for her first type writer experience….
she told me it was her story. She is eight.
I just yelled at her yesterday for trying to shirk her piano practice….. but even with all she has been through, and her noisy family and her momma yelling about piano practice…and this insane heat and our pitiful air conditioner…
As an artist….I told her it was the most beautiful piece of art I have ever seen and I framed it.
We have no excuse not to co-create too…
This is all for the Honey~Do list. Work on co-creating this weekend. ~T
Love the artwork..and the honey~do list! I will work on another cup of coffee right now. Have a blessed day!
Oh my goodness… that is the sweetest story and the most precious art work *ever*. What a special heart she has. Beautiful! Old typewriters are so much fun! We have one my husband’s mom used in school and my nephew loves to play with it! 🙂
I am glad people can see this.
With seven kids I have seen my fair share of child drawings…oh boy have I!…but this piece was different… Hers is a declaration…and how it turned out with they typing in the center.. I think it was just a nice piece. Moving because she has gone through so much… And is not just surviving…she is thriving.
Thanks for coming by.

well i am crying.. maybe all people calling themselves “christian” could use some dose of this kind of selflessness that would bring them to this revelation of the GRACE of being the children of the most high HOLY God
Piano Practice?! You all haven’t forgot about me. Tear, tear. Tricia, you’re amazing for seeing the God is every little detail. Yen, you’re amazing for being you, and creating with every part of you. XO
What a beautiful Honey-Do list inspiration. Love it.
