Writing To Guatemala
We found a few letters from our Compassion International kids this week. The last two letters will go out today. For whatever reason one of the main themes were volcanos. Bel remembered seeing a volcano erupt while we were in Guatemala… so all of the kids asked the kids they write to; which volcano they live near. It didn’t stop with the letters. The kids gathered books on volcanos and studied what actually happens to result in an eruption.
My oldest who has now been designated writer for two kids, figured out , both of the kids are in the same children’s center. Cal thinks it must mean something that he is writing two kids in the same place when we picked children from all over Guatemala. So little by little these children half a world away are being woven into our lives.
Do you sponsor a child with Compassion International? Which country and why? I would love to read about your experience, so please leave a comment so we can find our way back to you. ~T
We have ten CI kids in our family! Our beautiful children live in Ghana, Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Uganda (X2), Kenya, Tanzania, Bolivia and East India. What a blessing they are to us!
I am so happy to see that you’re promoting letter writing. Many children go without letters or only hear from their sponsors on rare occasions, yet those letters are so crucial to encouraging the children in the projects!
I loved this peek at your letter-writing ministry!
Thank you for being so encouraging.
Ten kids!… Do you sponsor all of them or do you write for people who can’t? I know that compassion has a writing program for people to help send letters to kids who don’t get them. I have thought about getting into that with our kids… But for now I think it is all we can do to write the kids we are currently sponsoring.

Hi T, this is a good reminder for me to get letters off . We sponsor two girls. On is from Bolivia and one from El Salvador. I recently received and updated photo from one. How I love the letters and pictures..
Oh I am so glad I could help remind you.
One thing I know for sure….kids love getting mail.

Writing letters is awesome. I wish I could get a hand written letter in the mail. 🙂

It’s a lost art, isn’t it? Amongst a million other good things…. My kids writing these letters to our compassion international kids has really helped their letter writing… Although it try not to be too critical ,as not to crowd their creativity.

On our drive to Guatemala City, I watch out my window as 3 volcanos go by. Even though I have seen them so so many times, I never stop watching.
My sponsor child lives in Ecuador.
How funny! what made you choose Equador?

I hadn’t found Guatemala yet 🙂
I was like 9th grade, I think, and I had just started studying Spanish, so I knew I wanted to sponsor a child in a Spanish-speaking country. I saw a picture of my little guy, and I went with it.
Now that I am here, I wish I had funds to sponsor a child in Guatemala too so that I could go visit. Maybe in the future!
