What the Shells are Saying.

September 13, 2011

She asks to go with me.
“Ya know this isn’t going to be like other walks, ” I slip her hand in mine as we climb the dunes,

“God’s mercies are new every morning and when we take the prayerful walk we are coming to gather all which God has for us. So be ready to receive.”
She nods affirmative and points out to sea, “Dolphins.”
She had spent the  morning going over all the previous days dolphin sightings and how Cal had swam with the wild dolphins, but she had not because she was afraid of the big waves.
It seems right these peaceful dolphins should quietly accompany us on our walk.

Shell upon shell appear.

The beach has been wiped clean for days and days, yet today impressive shells appear one after another.

Conchs and whelks which Yen has waited this entire trip for are in our path.

Her arms quickly fill and then mine.

“Do you remember what we prayed when we climbed the dunes, “I say as I collect a fallen shell.
“We said we came to gather anything God wanted us to …we are willing,” she squints up at me.

Her eyes are far away.
They always go far away when she is given any gifts.
The part of her heart still holding onto the abandonment of years ago whispers lies that she isn’t worthy to receive.
So even the shells which wash up on shore are crying out that she is worthy…but her eyes go far away. Too far to hear the cries of the shells… the shells abandoned and washed ashore now considered a beautiful treasure. Those shells held up to your ear will woosh with the wind straight from years sitting in a sea of Power. Her eyes too far to see the endless pod of dolphins which swim feet in front of her and flank her prayerful walk.

She repositions the shells in a more portable fashion, “We should get the others”

I nod and we head up the dunes.

It’s just a matter of being open and willing to listen…anyone can do it.
