You are Appreciated.

Five thousand came to that grassy field and that was just the men… They didn’t go to see the Savior of the world alone… You know their wives were chirping,” you are going where? …oh you will wait for me!… Or you will sleep on the cold side of the bed…”
so packing baskets and children they followed.
They packed baskets because there would have been no place to pick up Chick-fil-a… No place to run out quick to pick up a bite to eat between services….nope, they packed something to eat.
They packed baskets because there would have been no place to pick up Chick-fil-a… No place to run out quick to pick up a bite to eat between services….nope, they packed something to eat.
As it was the custom… The women, sisters, wives…
They packed food…something.
They packed the gift of food into baskets and they knew they would provide for their family…with what they packed when they went to see this Messiah.
The women did it, mostly.
We all know the story… We have heard it since it was just a few felt characters on a baby blue felt board as we crunched animal crackers and orange drink…

Those hungry 5000+ people all coming to hear this prophet…a conference…admission paid.
Then it came time to eat… and all of a sudden no one has anything… hmmm?
(Click HERE if you need a refresher)
only one boy…one boy?
There were 5,000 men there, and you know they didn’t go alone…who would have let them do that? There were baskets packed….packed with gifts.
And one boy willing to part with his gifts of food.
He was willing.
That one boy wasn’t asked to become Bobby Flay to the 5000, it was enough that he offered what he had…and it was basic…and there was only one willing to do the least..
In a group that big…that mega.
one.

Was enough to provide for 5,000+
can you even imagine…
Can you even grab your brain around…
If those women… The unnamed, the uncounted… If they had been willing to share their gifts…
When we are willing…just willing… Not great at…not skilled at… Just willing…
He can take our raw gifts , which He gave us…and make them into something we never would have imagined possible.
We just have to stand up… Take our gifts out of hiding and open up the baskets…then say, ” I am willing”
He will appreciate that willingness.
~
He loves you and He loves the people who sat around , fish or no fish… He even loved the ones who hid the loaves behind their backs, if there were any in a group of 5,000 + ….He loved them… you…me.
But how much more does He appreciate when you wear what He gives you.
When you share it with others.
When you beam back thanks.
He appreciates that.
and I don’t have a problem with using my gifts…ones given to me because :
I know You love me.
I know You know my name.
I know I would never want my gifts melted down into a golden calf.
I know I am built for this Keep Moving.

Wonderful, wonderful post. I had never thought if the story like this, I had just assumed there was no food. It was a trusting child who shared.
one day i was just looking out at our field imaging all those people filling it… and then I just thought…no food?
it just seems like someone was hiding something, lol.

smiles. appreciate your words today…and the gentleness in the willing…and he can use any of us, if we give him the opportunity…
thank you for saying that.

You have shown how important it is to fully enter the story to gain full understanding, greater wisdom. Love how you extracted this gem . . . “a gesture of willingness to use the gifts given”.
Always encouraging to stop by this way . . . having knee surgery tomorrow so it will be a little while before I get back here.
Bless you, T.
knee surgery.. okay well I will make sure I add you to our prayer list.
be blessed.

Thanks for you comment re quilting. I understand, I have 8 children, currently homeschooling 6. Now the youngest is three I seem to have a little time for blogging/sewing, unlike some seasons I’ve had.
it’s really about priorities.. perhaps when my girls are older.. although they are turning out to be better at stiching then me.. so perhaps sooner then later!
🙂

T…just a wonderful post…you brought new insight to the loaves and fishes…
Oh I did google Bobby Flay..thought maybe he was someone I should know…well in one way I would love to meet this place sometime:)
Blessings as we share what He gives…
Oh I thought most would know bobby flay.. he is a pretty big chef.. lol… but no need to know exactly who he is. I was just making the point that Jesus didn’t ask the boy to whip up something spectacular.. just be willing to share his gifts.
🙂

true, a different perspective!!!! i have a friend who has said that God uses simply waht we have in our hands, be it a trade tool or a spatula or the rod in moses’ hand. he will use us if we are willing. yes, Lord.
this is inspired… i’ve been thinking about this story a lot lately. thank you for helping me to understand it. love e.
oh its one of the stories that inspires me daily… just to be willing is clearly enough.
T
great perspective. and great words to me, a woman who may not have much past the raw gifts he’s given, but has so much to share, if I let Him.
oh you have such a gift for words and expression..
you have great gifts for sure!

We just have to stand up… Take our gifts out of hiding and open up the baskets…then say, ” I am willing” ~~love this!~
in my own strength I get flustered and think it will never be good enough… but if with a grateful heart believing Him to do good, for His honour and glory… then I take courage and great joy in the doing and the giving… for Him
let me tell you there is no doubt in my mind you use your gifts everyday.
you have such a gift for lifting others up.
truly
I just want telling my sister what a blessing you are.
You are using your gifts!
Cheering you on!
