Ramping up for the Big Reveal.

Have you ever tried really hard not to do something?

“Don’t touch those.. just leave them be…They’re Momma’s special communion cups”

She sits there with hands clasped and it’s just too much she has to touch them.

When we try really hard to NOT do something…all we are doing is obsessing about that one thing.

We think about ourselves…”I can’t do suchandsuch”

We obsess about the things we don’t want to do…”I can’t do___________ I made a resolution to not do _________ anymore.”…fill in the blank with your latest obsession…eat to much, eat unhealthy, be short with the kids.  You know what you routinely beat yourself up over.

Then the cycle plays out:

1.) We obsess about not doing something

2.)So we fail and do it

3.)Enter: guilt and self pity and beating yourself up over it.

4.)Make new resolution to Not do it again.

So in the end you have been obsessing on NOT doing X,Y and Z… but you have accomplished being obsessed with self….because that is what guilt, self pity and beating yourself up truly are…  Just another way to keep you centered on your self.

Okay are you with me?….because I have somethings to share…. and it is so incredibly simple it  will rock your world like a high pitched note.  If you can implement what I will share with you this week it will forever change your world.  I am  not trying to be slick with a cliff hanger here… I just want to ease you into it.. because when I grasped it… and I mean really grabbed hold….

Well it must be big because the backlash was big enough to …well let’s just say it was way bigger then goldfish in my driveway.

(fingers hovering over the keyboard)

Sheesh it would be so much easier if you could all come over to my house and paint in my kitchen and drink hot chocolate and I could tell you everything….

Okay so…. part one: Stop obsessing on “not sinning”… stop trying to not tick God off….It’s feeding your flesh.  The very act of YOU thinking  about how YOU can stop doing X,Y,and Z  is you being self absorbed and dressing it up as  holiness.  

(…eeking out: Head’s up, the Pharisees  concentrated on not sinning, it’s what kept them in business …Jesus concentrated on relationship, it’s what made him the Messiah)

*I have so much to be thankful for…but I don’t want you to loose what I wrote so I will stick to just a few:

1.)Communion on Sunday in my house with awesome people all with hearts willing and excited to see what He will do.

2.)Friends who will sit and listen to all that I went through this past week and nod validation….no doubt, no judgement…just bolstering friendship.

3.)What water paint and hot chocolate can do to any day.

4.)A hardworking husband who presses hard against evil schemes.

5.)A man who stands up on Sunday morning and seems to grow 5 inches taller as anointing falls on him only to raise him taller….tears in our eyes as we watch you grow.

6.)Watching all my children up front on Sunday… some playing the music…all others ministering in prayer… those little hands on leaders backs just in true prayer.

7.)All the brave-enough readers who asked for words and verses… Loved it!!!! I loved praying for each one and seeing what was chosen…(There is still time for anyone else… I will gladly pray and pick ones for anyone else…just leave a comment Requesting a word….check here for explanation on Words of Knowledge to see if you are interested.)

    Oh boy do I remember when told not to touch – – We are then on alert and our eyes sparkle and our hands reach out to take and hold what we were told could not be ours.
    I suppose Adam and Eve were in that boat too! Don’t touch-
    Were it us there in that garden – would we have done the same thing? Probably so — or we too saintly to think such a thing! 🙂

      I am pretty sure I would have paced around that tree …always giving it the “Side eye”

    You post reminds me of one of my favorite verses: “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things” (Philippians 4:8). We become more productive for God and more like Him when we focus on the good things. When we obsess about our failures and past sins, we are getting pulled back into their pit. I’m praising God that His mercies are new each day!!

    This is so true! When we focus on what not to do, we lose focus. God wants us to focus on Him and the changes that He is making in our hearts. When we focus on what God wants us to do, we have our eyes on Him.

    I would love for you to pray for me and give me a verse! I don’t think we ever officially met, but I clean the church at Caring.
    I was one of the women that helped to host the “Little girls Christmas Tea” and loved spending sometime with your girls. It was so much fun!

    Wow! You are SO right. How do we not see that focusing on what we’re NOT supposed to do is another distraction to keep us from focusing on the One who can live through us! It seems like another tool the enemy uses to keep us from staying focused on Him!

    Wow, what a word! I’ve known that the Pharisees focused on NOT sinning (the outward), but translating that to terms for myself – focusing on relationship with God instead of obsessing about not sinning GREAT reminders! something that we should never forget.
