Abandoning a hobby.

January 10, 2012

You brought me to this place.. to pan for what brings You joy.

But it’s just what got me here.

Once You captured me with your Joy ,flickering gold… I saw so much more.

This time spent searching, so much more was revealed.

What fool’s gold looks like…. I now know.

I saw how time and time again the flicker of holiness…is not Holy… but the flicker of the gold of fools.

Is that why you brought me to this?

To see while we are on the Keep Moving… how often people will pop up shouting “Holy gold!”?… and it  does flicker and shine.

But it is all one more way we wrap ourselves tightly in itchy flesh…. we serve ourselves…looking into a swirling pan of flickering inferior joy…not Joy.

Missing true Holiness while we are busying ourselves with things without value….even when they do flicker and shine?

How do we fine tune our panning skills….

and sing you Worship and Praise… and not sing catchy tunes which sing of our faults…our unworthiness….and not your Holiness

Walk in the Joy of the Lord which is our strength… and not count how many ways we can make ourselves joyful in one day

to pray with the voices of someone You did die for… You did fight for… You did conquer for…. and not with the prayers of self pitying lowly weaklings

to cast out in Your name.

to speak with courage and strength like one who is royally bred and not some simpleton or town idiot who doesn’t know their royal heritage.

To turn the hobby of You… into a lifestyle and art!

So is this why you brought me here on this Journey of Keep Moving?

So I may pan next to You and learn how to see the gold of fools and throw it away from my path… the things dressed as holy, but are really just more self serving acts to keep us busy going nowhere.

To stop looking at how many stones are in the pan….. the sin in our lives.

To look past for what is true gold….

the True Joy of the Lord,

True Worship,

Understanding our True Royal Heritage

I am getting it ounce by ounce… I came for one thing… but You stand beside me teaching me a life skill passed down through a Royal Line.

A life skill which is not for the hobbyists… but for the devout.

I want to bring along as many as I can…. there is treasure for everyone on this Journey.

It’s so easy to get fooled by the world’s fool’s gold. I’m so glad God leads us on to the real thing. Lovely post!

Just this morning I started reading The Secrets of the Vine (again!) by Bruce Wilkenson. It is all about bearing much fruit for Him. The key words there are “for Him”. It is so easy to get caught up in serving for the wrong reasons. Even mature Christians can sometimes fall into that trap. But when we remember to do things in order to glorify God and not us, then we will bear much fruit…and fruit for Him and feel God’s abundance in our lives.

I love this analogy. It is so easy to be fooled by the world’s glittery gold, but at some point we realize that it is not goodness. It is not what fills our souls. It is not everlasting, but temporal. May we all pan for the joy of the Lord.

listen for some…all they barely know is to stop panning for the worlds gold and start searching for true GO(l)D…but others who’ve grown up in the Gold Rush need to know the and be keen to the difference between the Gold of fools and true Joy Gold. One is worth over 1000 an once while the other is sold in gift shops to people who want a souvenir…

not everyone is gonna get it. it’s ok. the point is, you did. because at the end…we are only accountable for ourselves.

“know the DIFFERENCE* and be keen..” sorry the word difference got cut out

Thanks.. Yes I am not talking at all about the world….at least I am not…although I could see how it could be an easy analogy for that also.
What I areferring to is how often we as Christians believe we are doing holy things when in fact we are swirling in circles and actually doing nothing…ie. Fools gold….that’s why I was listing the fake worship vs. Real and so on…
Either way…it is interesting how most would interpret this post.

    Love this post.
You have woven such truth here.
I see the fools gold as so many things in life that seek to steal our joy. These things are just a facade. True joy is found only in Jesus.

I see. IT’s nice that people are able to take away so many different things.
Joan… thank you for your encouragement.

Ya know, not everyone wanted to hear the good news that Jesus had to share, but it doesn’t mean his news wasn’t legit. Oh yeah, it was news that was going to save their very souls! Keep writing this is good. Really good. And it’s deep in the trenches of revelation. A place where not all are brave enough to dig. Loved it.

      Thank you dear Samantha.
just so curious that everyone went to us vs. the world with this post… it wasn’t where I was going at all.
thank you for your strong encouragement.

learning the difference between the two is a struggle sometimes, but so worth it. Great post!

  10. January 11, 2012 10:45 pm

nice…it def takes discernment to sift through those pans and determine what is real and what is of the fool…

  11. January 11, 2012 11:15 pm

i want the wisdom to discern… to not be distracted by the appearance of fool’s gold… a poignant reminder. thank you!

Ohhh, what a take on this subject. Very creative. Yep.

    • January 12, 2012 3:46 pm

i am glad you think so… it was pretty profound when I started to understand the fine line between what we think is holy… and what is just a scheme to make us feel busy and serving (Martha) but we are really just being kept from actual relationship.
