“You are Blessed”
I wake up so hungry… the kind of hungry where you are thinking of all the foods you want and it just makes you even more hungry.
But with my husband out of town and he’s coming home today, there are things that need to be put in order…and gallivanting around seeking out Greek food is not part of the schedule.
With the baby still asleep in my bed , I ninja roll out of bed so she can’t detect me leaving.
I remember ,last night I made sure all the things I would need to make a good cup of tea are already waiting for me…. I do these little prep things when he isn’t here . I know what I am like when I have come downstairs to an entire school of children awaiting me with vocab books to grade and rough drafts to check…No matter how many mornings I mumble, “just give me a minute, let me drink my tea”.. they ask all the same.
The kids, they are noisy downstairs…all six of them. Thank God the baby is still sleeping though all of it. I can hear their voices ricocheting through the house.
Ricocheting off my brain.
I
just
need
tea.
With the last step I start to get a little ticked…”that baby is sleeping and if anyone wakes her up”, I tell myself as all mothers do who have had the miracle of a baby who is doing the mythical “sleeping in”.
I come around the corner …to…food.
An egg sandwich…
like he would have made me on any Saturday morning. (don’t worry honey …not just like you make:))
And tea!
And a note…to remind me I am blessed.
Signed by every one of them.
We have been talking about it for months now….how Proverbs 31 talks of a woman…but it also speaks of how her husband should act…and it even adds how her children should act…How she isn’t to be some crazy woman running around doing it all on her own… but how Proverbs 31 includes a team of people (a husband, children and yes even staff)…a team working together to accomplish an awesome home. So one by one it has become the norm in the house for children to pass me and call me Blessed….actually everyday, unprompted, what they say is
“momma you are blessed”
…and then I tell them they are blessed too.
It’s a fraction of a second in time which fulfills an ancient text.
We are all part of this…this being a team….
and I try to affirm their part in a Story which has been going on longer then them…longer then me. Spiritually they have a huge role to play , and they aren’t just children and it is my job to make sure they understand the parts they have… and for them to begin to understand the lifelong identity they have.
How will they know if we don’t tell them? And then we need to affirm their spiritual worth.
It’s not just about their spiritual potential… They are spiritually worthy today…right now.

Proverbs 31:28-29
New International Version (NIV)28 Her children arise and call her blessed;
her husband also, and he praises her:
29 “Many women do noble things,
but you surpass them all.”

Tears sprung to my eyes when I read of this beautiful thing your littles did for you- its so touching. Maybe because mine used to do the same, the years do fly by. My oldest is back home due to unforseen circumstances, she worked all this week and cooked supper two evenings because I have the crud. ( she and my son had it the previous two weeks) It sounds like we are teaching the lessons well. Keep up the beautiful work T. (remember you mentioned salted caramel hot chocolate at Target? Ours doesnt carry it. I might talk with the manager and ask him to carry it. Maybe yours is a Super Target? Oh well, Swiss Miss is calling my name.)
ours ran out too! ;( I guess it was a holiday thing…grrr….I haven’t seen a Super Target since I lived in Minneapolis…we only have regular Targets here.
it was better then Starbucks version.
ahh well.
T
just came back from our target… (thank God my husband’s home) and they haven’t restocked…. so I think it is done-zo.
bah.

Love this! Hopped over from Lisa-Jo’s blog. So fun that your kiddos made you a great breakfast. I used to love doing this for my parents too when I was growing up!
oh my gosh yes.
it was a complete surprise…considering it wasn’t just toast but eggs and tea!
loved it.

What a fabulous gift for you! And the handwritten notes are the absolute best!

I so enjoyed this post! What a beautiful portrait of family unity. And I LOVE how you highlighted the fact that children don’t just have spiritual potential, but spiritual worth right now. That is so true and yet seems to not be understood by so many loving, well-meaning people.
oh I TOTALLY agree… I am amazed over and over and over that people seem to think of kids as larva… or worse nothing until proven otherwise.. and I think how valuable a child’s spiritual self is..to be guarded but to be valued and affirmed.
