Aprons and New Mercies

February 7, 2012

She came with a stack, of once old rags … now made aprons.

Little uniforms tied around to teach service to another generation.

Little aprons used to stand side by side and help one another… to learn from each other.

She brought them because she needed help.

Her faith waning in the short days … the darkness taking up more of her day.

She brought aprons in exchange … could we stand beside her and help.

~

She brought us aprons which had been tied tight around the generations… a simple request…

…will you help me?

Too much hurting in her aging body which runs well on sun and sinks low with the short days.

For the moment, her faith worn around the edges… she needed to soak in a different Son.

“Could the children pray for me?”

~

~

So they gathered around her on the sofa she gave us years ago… when I was young I thought it was what a king would sit on.

The same place she would pray for me when I was young…with the same aprons I had worn.

Generations tied tight in a Royal heritage.

With chipper voices they went before a throne…their hands on her shoulders, lifting her up.

“Lord we know you are God who hears our prayers…. We know you can do impossible things and make them possible….We know….”

They had more then enough faith to share with her… they know no different.

So with a fabric of service tied around waists and faith to share they surrounded her.

A legacy continued.

It’s never about how clean your home is... how old you are…it’s about

Seeking out.
Receiving.
Gathering it
Giving it back.

Being Willing to Receive his new mercies every morning.
even when it looks like laundry.

And they don’t even know any different. Look at what God did in us, can you imagine what He’s going to do in them?!?! Aaa-mazing.

Hardest, I think, to ask for. Praise God she humbled herself to do so and and that your children, grown in faith could answer the call.
    Our God is so good.
Thank you for sharing this precious moment with us.
    Blessings,

Oh, there is such beauty here. It’s my first time visiting, but it feels like a welcoming place. And those aprons? I have a soft spot for them, especially the homemade and re-made.

May God guide you as you shine His light.

    Blessings.

These words and photos really touched my heart, and it is a privilege to see into your beautiful little family. I hope you return next week.

Makes me think of the yellow and black apron my mother made me for Art when I was in Kindergarten. My name embroidered on the front. I still have it in my hope chest. I had forgotten. Thank you for the happy memory.

Oh, T, how I love this, from the sweet pictures, to the king’s couch to the aprons to the message of reaching and loving, with praying hands and open doors. A marriage is more than a man and a woman who bring children in the world, it is also reaching for relationship with those that grew us somehow whether it is old neighbors, old friends or family:) I so love your heart that doesn’t just love those inside your home – it pulls people into the love in your home:)
