Family Birthday

February 12, 2012

She asked me to make her a cake which everyone could share.

She can’t remember the huge party I had for her after she got here years ago…..just three years ago.

She can’t remember it.

So much of her mind is shut off to her.

So I decide to try and make a cake like the one I made her years ago….just three years ago.

I can remember it clear … she wanted a big cake and she had asked me to make her a rainbow puzzle in my workshop.

I had looked up a verse with a rainbow and it cracked my heart wide open for my new little girl….

that it will never happen again.

No matter how the skies fill with clouds and her eyes fill with tears…

no matter how sunny the days….how many “Watch me momma’s”

no matter how many times the seasons change

We are her family and she is ours.

No matter what.

Her brother took the green from the rainbow and lost it.

I made the cake … and didn’t do a very good job of replicating the first one I had made her.

Her dramatics frustrated me all day while the cake cooled and I rolled the fondant.

She drove her father nuts with her tears over her homework.

It was one of those days where parents exchange looks that say…”is it bedtime yet?”

But no matter what….we are family.

“never again” and “no matter what” . . . two little phrases packed with promise. Love this post, T . . . praying that one day your girl will rest peacefully in these promises.

lol…with all the fireplaces in this house puffing away… the air was very dry and the fondant was drying out really fast while I tried to paint .
So that was frustrating… but it isn’t too bad.
      thanks.

Undoubtedly the most colorful birthday cake I’ve ever seen. You have got to be the best mommy ever to pour that much trouble into a cake. Wow, what lucky kids you have! The rainbow puzzle is beautiful. Maybe the green will show up in brother’s closet or between the mattress and box springs or down in the sofa cushions.

      I love it!
I will check… or perhaps hold the boys upside down and wait till it falls out of their many pockets, lol!
