Going to Chapel…
I stand in the chapel… and it is not somewhere I needed to drive to.
This chapel’s atmosphere so perfectly made …so safe you barely notice you have arrived
I stand in the chapel with the worship team lifting the ceiling higher and higher
I stand in the chapel and the healing begins….
right next to the toy alligator eating an orange slice.
I stand in the chapel of my kitchen…
one of the holiest places I have been given.
In this chapel the Light does not leave...it is not hidden…as if on a stand providing Light to everyone in the house.
In the chapel of my kitchen… fathers swing daughters around professing love and reminding them they are adored forever.
~
In the chapel of my kitchen I may sing loud to an audience of teapots and angels…no judgement from either attendant.
In the chapel of my kitchen we recognize Him standing there and we invite Him …we usher in a Spirit of praise.
The paint splattered counters a constant alter where we gather around.
Friends and family laying it down on a granite slab in a farm kitchen…
receiving His communion anew.
In the chapel of my kitchen guitarists side step towers of cups as they sing inspired melodies reaching far past our rafters.
~
Babies dance to their reflections in the fridge as He goes before them and stands next to them…
this chapel is a holy place…it’s where the real lives are laid down and we are fed….
In each home there is a chapel… you have a chapel….
a chapel you have been given where He knew you would feel safe…
safe to lay it down..
to rise up …
to bow low…
to grab His gifts to you and swing them around and thank Him for His forever Love.
This chapel you have been given teaches you everyday of salt…of Light.
In the chapel of my kitchen the man of my dreams spins me around to the delight of watchful little girls with hands clasped they cheer him on…. and he, kissing me with a kiss which tastes of chicken soup.
In this chapel we are loved…
by no small coincidence this chapel teaches me that the salt will not loose it’s saltiness…and the light… it will not go out…
I wonder did He laugh when He stood on the hill and joked of salt without saltiness…and lights put under bowls?
did the women smile to themselves…getting the joke He told for the homemakers in the crowd.
They knew in their chapels of their kitchens…just like ours…the salt doesn’t loose it’s saltiness…the lights are out in the open
Did they blush or beam joy to know the King of Kings spoke to the holders of the kitchen chapels?
In this chapel we sing and sway with babies on hip and pray and come together next to salt and light…becoming salt and light more and more.
Matthew 5:13-16
New International Version (NIV)
Salt and Light13 “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.
14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
