After losing these little garden shovels for the very last time I had to do something. Do you remember Week one of this year’s gardening season…I was more then a little Pittsburgh Dad about it.  I mean, it happens every year, those kids run off with my shovels and then I can never find them. Or one of the seven kids will think they are putting them away at the end of the day and toss them into the dark corners of the barn.  I have had it with trying to track a simple shovel down every time I have carved out a few minutes to garden.

Such a simple easy project… just take a cheap house mailbox (This one cost $14 at HomeDepot) and attach it to the side of a raised bed…or shed, or fence rail or whatever. They are weather proof and have little drainage holes at the bottom so a perfect fit for the garden.  It took me less then five minutes to attach it to the side of one of my raised beds.  This cute little box now holds 3 little garden shovels and lighter I need for the fire pit….easy peasy.

Now when I actually get time to garden or walk by the gardens and see they need a little care, I won’t have to go track down a shovel ,they will be right within reach!  Can you tell I am super excited about this, lol!  Even my husband said it looks good…but of course then he said, “Oh you should have gotten two , one for the other side.”…well I don’t know that I am that lazy of a gardener!

Problem Solved.

I have a little toolbox that we made ages ago in 4H that I tote around with me. Its made of Cedar so will stand the test of time. Id love to have a rounded top mailbox on a post in my garden one day. I have come home from our camping trip knowing I HAVE to plant a butterfly garden in addition to our veggies. I know you are thankful for all those little hands “helping”. 😉 wink.

that is super cool…about the toolbox.
Now as far as the butterfly garden…. just throw in some butterfly bushes and call it a day…nothing brings them in like those and you just can’t kill one of those bushes… we have tried, lol.
I hear they came out with a weeping variety..I am eager to find it.
