Painting for Peace.

I remember once when I was a teenager I was singing up front on a Wednesday night….and the leader wasn’t there.  So it was essentially a bunch of teenagers in charge of things…and somewhere between the 2nd and 3rd song kids just were moved…all races, all ages , all different economical groups together  pushed all the chairs back and sat on the floor and just were washed in an overwhelming Presence.  As the singer I watched, from a bird’s eye view, it all unfold and it was amazing.  The next day the leader came back…and he was so excited about what happened.  So the following Wednesday rolled around again…and the leader with an overwhelming need to have the same thing happen got up and said in his raspy voice, “Hey guys last week was good…real good so  let’s  go ahead and push back the chairs…let’s just get free. Turn to the person next to you and say ‘Freedom!’ now say, ‘push back the chairs’!”

nothing happened.

Again I was up front perched watching and waiting…and as a jaded and cynical teenager I scoffed at the fact that he connected our experience with “pushing back the chairs” and even then I wondered why he wanted to recreate what happened…and not to push through to the next thing.

So I tell you that story because I am feeling quite ferocious today.  Nothing brings out peoples agendas like the move of God.  People want to be responsible for it…or to make it work for them…or to control it…or to get full of fear that it won’t happen unless their version “of the chairs are pushed back”…so hand it all over to Him…Only You be Glorified…not me..not them…just You.

Let me rest in the Peace that is knowing this is all You…. because right now my eyes are squinted and my jaw is set…and I feel really protective.

So I will see you tonight?  Please come out.  If you can’t be there could you toss up some prayers for me…for Prayer~Fast ~Worship.  I would love it for you to be there.    We would have such fun together.

I don’t know why we keep trying to re-create something only our Lord could have done. You’re right about the futility of our agenda, our trying to “make” it happen again. God will not yield His glory to another. (Isaiah 48:11)

it is like your paintings… no two are ever alike… the idea is to capture a new moment… remember the past ones but always trust God for a new annointing…
it is in His marvelous plan… no two snowflakes are alike, nor fingerprints, nor DNA…
Even He captures it all anew…

love your art and your prayers
    blessings dear friend

Your birds are incredibly beautiful! Wonderfully done.

I love your birds – especially the first one, where they are kissing or talking or whispering secrets – wonderful.

Our leaders have (usually) been very good about not pushing for things to happen the way they think they should and just following God’s leading, but it’s not an easy thing to do. A friend of mine recently got a word about following stillness – being willing to hold still and breathe instead of always pushing forward. Such a beautiful concept.
