Wonder some more….
Friday I read so many essays on “wonder” and it swirled in my head all weekend long. Why do we think that children can be the only ones filled with true wonder? So many writers remarked about the wonder which little kids view the world…and why shouldn’t they? They have never seen half the things we have. It’s only logical, not magical or amazing. But it seems we think only the big things will bring us Wonder…if at all.
Why do we think we are so far gone?
Is it because we are too jaded and cynical?
Is it because we are too filled with adult worry grown up from our childhood wonder? Or is it that we just stopped looking….
We stopped meandering and started rushing.
We stopped crouching down low to get a better look and started taking long steps overtop.
We stopped wondering why and how and when …and just googled and read someone else’s ideas.
We stopped looking up and instead looked down into the slim black boxes emitting waves to far away towers.
Have we just gone back to the infantile state from when we were born…when the only thing that mattered was our own needs
and nothing else existed. As a baby grows into a child who walks they begin a stage where things are really a wonder to them, it is because they started looking beyond their own little world. They have toddled out towards the Wonder. They inspect it in awe or curiosity. That is where the Wonder happens.
We aren’t too jaded and cynical
We haven’t seen it all.
We just aren’t looking for the Wonder.
It’s just safer not too.
~What brings you closer to Wonder? I find gardening helps me sink into the Wonder which is supplied around me. Please leave a comment and tell us what helps you experience Wonder. ~T
My list of ten things which brought me to Wonder….
1. My daughter who swims stronger and faster then the boys.
2. Each little tiny mellon on long draping vines.
3. My strong brother joining me for breakfast.
4. A husband who makes tea…always tea.
5. A sister and nephew who live close and never cease to entertain.
6. Another daughter who can do flips like a super hero.
7. Watching my oldest and youngest be each others biggest fans.
8. A mother with a red phone to God who always texts me to have my children pray for her.
9. Sky blue nail polish that picks me up when I look down.
10. An evening sky brighter and more colorful then I could ever catch on canvas.
“…we google and read someone else’s idea…” ouch. I always loved beating those boys …I did it running though …not swimming. You are right. We google too much and don’t wonder enough. Thanks for the encouragement to stop and look.
Running is huge in my family…not with me but with everyone else…That’s what amazes me as more and more of my kids have athletic ability I am like..oh yeah I am the only one who is slow, lol.

I wonder if I will ever stop being inspired by your writings or your teachings or your comics (yeah, ya make me laugh). Was that sunset from a Fl beach? My heart was longing to feel the sand between my toes the moment I saw your post.
