Bee Sting

July 25, 2011

Dragging water back and forth to the watermellons. Hearing and thinking, trying to grab time and slip into a throne room.
Not thinking about angry bees going about their work…as I go about mine. I don’t notice the something extra in my sandal until I feel the stinger sink into the base of my foot.

Kicking and kicking to get my shoe off , but its too late. I collect the baby from the sandbox and head inside to mix up a poultice.

BEEnStung Poultice Recipe

3 Tablespoons Baking Soda
1 Tablespoon Salt
stir with a smidge of water till it just becomes drippy

I lay with the baby as she slips into her nap. The messy healing goo drips across my foot. The heat of the stinger subsides as it soaks up the mess. The throbbing goes away and I think about my sister…. her story.. She was covered in bees, far from any relief. No baking soda and salt then… but real healing now. A miracle, really.

I just heard some thunder…could we actually get rain? We have many letters to write to our Compassion International Kids this week. I wanted to start today, however one of our animals died so we had to tend to that issue first. ~ T

Many things to be thankful for….
1.)Strong brothers to dig a hole to bury a sad little sister’s animal.
2.)Thunder rolling like a promise.
3.)Lavender Bread and Honey Butter..I never knew it would be so good!
4.)a baby who DOES sleep through the night.
5.)A hay delivery
6.)RAIN…I see IT!!!!!
7.)laughing with my husband
8.)a happy horse galloping around in the pouring rain!!!!
9.)a beautiful typewriter that inspires stories.
10.)an idea to help kids who live in the Wild West but also right next door….still thinking, putting calls in.

Och! Baking soda does wonders for many things. I recently read a post that said bees make about a quarter of a teaspoon of honey in their lifetime. If that is the case I highly respect for all of their effort but not when they bite my friends,,Take care! (not sure if the info is correct) I will have to do research..Lots to be thankful for…

      I truly love bees.
I had too much going on this past spring to start up my hive… but fully intend to start a hive next spring.
I grow lavender just so I can sit next to it and watch the bee action.
I never actually saw what type of insect stung me… but I was walking though some clover…so I figured it most likely was bees.

IT turned out great. I was skeptical it would be to floral…like it would taste like perfume. I have had jasmine tea which tasted like perfume…yick. This was not that way at all.
My ten year old son, while watching a baseball game, said it is odd but amazing and delicious.
Perhaps I will put the recipe up this week. Lavender is in full bloom!
